Thank you for visiting the Almond-Bancroft Elementary Counselor page!

My name is Dawn McDonald and I have been the elementary school counselor here since 1993.  I was educated at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989 and a Master of Science in Education degree in 1991.  I am certified as a Pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school counselor in Wisconsin.

Previous to Almond-Bancroft, I interned for a year in the Waupaca School District.  I served as the elementary counselor intern at the Chain O' Lakes School, Westwood School, and Riverside School for grades K-5.

My professional interests include relational aggression among elementary aged girls and the relationship between positive school climate and academic performance.  I serve as the internal coach for the elementary PBIS team.

My professional memberships have included The Central Wisconsin School Counselor's Association, for which I served as treasurer for a school year, and The Wisconsin School Counselor's Association. These memberships have allowed me to interact with school counselors from the area and the state in order to keep current with issues that are important to students and parents.

I live in Ripon, Wisconsin with my husband Sandy and our children:
three sons (ages 17, 13 and 7),  one daughter, (age 17) and two Corgis.

Many people wonder what an elementary school counselor does.  I hope I can answer that question in my web pages.  Thank you for your interest in your child's school counseling program.
