College Entrance Exams
The ACT (American College Test) and the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) are the two major college entrance exams. Nationally, most schools will accept scores from either the ACT or SAT. The UW System and the Wisconsin Private Colleges recommend the ACT and the majority of Wisconsin System-bound students take the ACT. The ACT is administered free to juniors each February in the Almond-Bancroft School District. If students wish to take the ACT again to obtain a better score, they will need to register on their own and pay the exam fee. Testing sites and dates can be found at act.org.
There is free online test prep at www.knowhow2gowisconsin.org and www.privatecollegezone.org. Research shows that students who complete practice tests score higher than if they do not. Only UW-Madison currently requires the writing portion of the ACT for admittance. Students should also do some preliminary research on potential school, because they are allowed to list four schools that they would like the scores sent to. These four schools receive the ACT scores at no charge. If the score needs to be sent to a different school at a later time, there wil be a small fee.
Almond-Bancroft's School Code for either test is: 500-030.
